HopeWorks of Howard County Inc is Hiring a Community Engagement Coordinator Near Columbia, MD

Position Title: Community Engagement Coordinator

Supervisor: Director of Community Engagement

FLSA Status: Exempt


Employment Status:
Full Time (40 hours per week)

Department: Community Engagement

Compensation: $40,000 annually

HopeWorks’ Community Engagement staff are invested and engaged in altering the systems and imbalances of power that maintain the status quo and that are root causes of sexual and intimate partner violence - including racism, transphobia, poverty, homophobia, and xenophobia. The Engagement Coordinator is tasked with the coordination and facilitation of programs (virtually and in-person) of educational workshops for young adults and youth, awareness events, outreach campaigns and collaborating with community partners for racial, economic, and gender justice. Minimum Qualifications

  • Passion for HopeWorks’ mission and vision/ Sincere interest in mission driven work
  • Lived or learned experience in racial, economic, and gender justice work
  • Superior written and verbal skills along with computer proficiency
  • Experience and/or training in workshop facilitation preferred
  • Experience and/or training in communications preferred
  • Skilled in the strategic use of platforms such as Facebook, Canva, Constant Contact, Zoom, and Mentimeter
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
  • Experience or interest in podcasting, video production and/or the arts a plus
  • Be a creative self-motivated, team player with a sense of humor
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in liberal arts, communications, public relations, or social science field such as Psychology, Sociology, Women’s and/or Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies (preferred)
  • Oral and written fluency in a second language (strongly preferred but not required)


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach, awareness, and educational programming to organizations such as, but not limited to, colleges, community agencies, elementary, middle, and high schools, alternative school settings, faith communities, local businesses, and other human service agencies in Howard County.
  • Co-facilitate and assist with engagement programming as needed.
  • Serve as the editorial assistant for the Dragonfly arts and transformative justice magazine, create, manage and/or update resource, partner, and media lists.
  • Create and distribute engagement and agency literature throughout the community and continuously seek new locations or methods for disseminating information.
  • Participate in department-wide efforts including DV Awareness Month, SAAM/NCAP Month and Poetry Reading
  • Create social media posts, graphics and needed communications to promote and market events and projects
  • Track, compile, and report monthly statistics for grant purposes
  • Attend agency and departmental staff meetings
  • Attend trainings and professional development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.
